Road & Driveway Work — Southside Virginia

Site Access
A badly built driveway or farm road costs you twice. Once to build it, and again every time it washes out, gets rutted, or needs to be regraded because the base work wasn't done right the first time. Blake builds driveways and roads that are graded and drained properly from the start.
In Southside Virginia, you're dealing with clay-heavy soils that hold water, variable terrain, and seasonal weather that punishes roads with a weak base. The difference between a road that lasts and one that doesn't usually comes down to proper base compaction, drainage, and crown. Those aren't shortcuts you take on a job site.
Blake builds new driveways, farm roads, and access roads. He also repairs and regrades existing driveways that have settled, rutted, or lost their drainage. If you need a culvert to keep water from cutting across the road, he handles that too.
Pricing depends on length, grade, surface type, and site conditions. Call Blake and describe what you need. He'll give you a straight number.

A new driveway built from scratch. Blake handles clearing, grading, base compaction, and surface prep. Built to drain properly and hold up through Virginia winters.
Access roads for farms, horse properties, and rural land. Designed to handle heavy equipment, livestock trailers, and year-round use across Southside Virginia's variable terrain.
Existing driveway rutted, washed out, or losing its crown? Blake assesses the base condition and repairs what needs fixing. Sometimes that's regrading and fresh gravel. Sometimes the base needs to be rebuilt.
Culverts sized and placed right are what keep driveways and farm roads from washing out every spring. Blake installs new culverts, replaces failing ones, and adds culverts where drainage is cutting across your road.
Building on rural land? Blake builds the temporary and permanent access roads needed to get equipment in, keep the site working through mud season, and leave you with a finished road when construction is done.
Gravel is only as good as what's underneath it. Blake handles base prep, compaction, and proper gravel application for driveways, parking areas, and yard surfaces that need an all-weather surface.
How We Build
Blake has been building driveways and roads on rural Virginia properties since 2014. He knows what fails out here: improper drainage that lets water pool under the surface, compaction done wrong so the base shifts with frost, and crown that's too flat to shed rain.
"A driveway that washes out every spring isn't a gravel problem. It's a drainage and base problem. Fix those first and the gravel stays put."📞 Call 804-731-6645
— Blake Jones, Owner & Operator
Every road and driveway is graded to shed water away from the surface. Flat roads hold water, soften the base, and fail. Proper crown and side drainage prevent that from the start.
Gravel on soft or poorly compacted subgrade settles unevenly, especially through Virginia freeze-thaw cycles. Blake compacts the subgrade before any surface material goes down.
Not all gravel is the same. The right stone size and mix depends on whether you're building a private driveway, a farm road handling heavy equipment, or a construction access. Blake selects accordingly.
Any road that crosses a drainage channel or low point needs a properly sized culvert. Blake identifies where water will want to cross and installs the culvert before it becomes a washout problem.
How It Works
Describe what you need. New driveway, farm road, repair, culvert. Blake will ask the right questions and give you a straight read on what the job involves.
Blake visits the property, assesses the terrain, drainage conditions, and access. You get a quote based on what the job actually requires, not a ballpark from a phone call.
Any clearing needed is done first. Then the subgrade is cut, shaped, and graded to the right crown and drainage slope before any base material goes down.
Subgrade compacted, culverts installed where needed, base stone laid and compacted in lifts. The foundation work that determines whether the road holds up long-term.
Final surface gravel applied and shaped. Site cleaned up. You get a road that's built to drain, built to hold weight, and ready to use year-round.
